  FUBARA APPOINTS ODILI, AMIESIMAKA INTO RECONSTITUTED STATE VARSITY GOVERNING COUNCILS Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara has reconstituted the governing councils of two tertiary institutions in the State; the Rivers State University and the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. A statement signed by Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), said governor Fubara appointed Hon. Justice Mary Odili (rtd) to be the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the governing council of the Rivers State University (RSU). Governor Fubara also appointed Barr. Mela Oforibika,  Chukwuma A.J. Chinwo, Esq., Adata Bio-Briggs, Esq., Dr. Jonathan Nimi Hart, Ngo Martins-Yellowe and Dr. Robinson N. Ewoh to serve as members. Operators in the downstream oil sector confirmed that the development was due to the suspension of operations by the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, in fulfilment of their threat to down tools beginning today Monday.  RIVERS POLICE ARREST HOSPITAL MANAGER OVER SURGERY FATALITY ON 24 YEARS OLD LADY Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested the manager of the Paragon Clinics and Imaging Diagnosis. The arrest followed the report of death of a first-class graduate of Micro Biology from Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, Edo State This former student, identified as Rebekah Sekidika, was admitted at this private health facility that is located along Stadium Road in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, for medical attention. The Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrest of the manager and two other staff.  RIVERS COURT RESTRAINS POLICE FROM TRANSFERRING DEFENDANTS IN SLAIN DPO TO ABUJA  The Nigerian police  is now restrained from re-arresting any defendant already standing trial in the murder charge over the killing of late Bako Angbashim, former DPO of Ahoada Divisional Police. A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, presided over by Justice Sika Aprioku, issued the restraining order. The order of court also restrained the Nigerian Police from taking any of the defendants already on trial, move or plan to move the case file of the murder case from Port Harcourt to the Abuja High Court. Justice Aprioku applauded the conduct of  the prosecution team of Nigeria Police and Rivers State Department of Public Prosecution led by C.F Amadi. They had both insisted, justice Aprioku noted, that only those whose cases have been established in the case file can be tried after amending the charges. THERE WON'T BE FOOD IMPORTATION INTO NIGERIA - FG  Food importation would not be a part of the strategies to adopt in addressing the high costs of foodstuffs and the economic hardship experienced in Nigeria. This was one of the resolutions that was reached at the Thursday’s emergency meeting between  President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and state governors at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.   COURT RESTRAINS IG FROM ARRESTING NYCN CHAIRMAN, OTHERS  A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted an order of interim injunction restraining the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu , from arresting the state Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Chijioke Ihunwo, and two others. The others are Happy Bennett and Jinjiri Bala. Also restrained by the order are Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule , their subordinates agents, provides, proxies and representatives. The court presided over by Justice G.O Ollor in an experte application filed by the applicants’ counsel, Damian Okoro, restrained the defendants from taking further steps in arresting, whisking away, detaining or infringing on the fundamental rights of the applicants pending the determination of the Originating applications.
