JOIN MILITARY, WORIKA TELLS RIVERS YOUTHS

Secretary to the Rivers State Government(SSG), Prof. lbibia Lucky Worika, has urged youths of the State to admire serving in the military and take advantage of the ongoing recruitment to be enrolled.

Prof Worika expressed concerns over the low enrolment of Rivers youths into the military and assured of reviewing the enlistment processes adopted by the State to close any existing gaps

This was contained in a statement by

Juliana Masi, the Head of Press Unit in the Office of the SSG on Tuesday saying that Prof Worika gave the assurance when he hosted the recruitment team from the Nigerian Army Headquarters in his office in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Wito Nzidee led the team and they were in the State to increase awareness among the youths to enrol in the ongoing 89" Regular Recruitment Intake for Trades/Non- Tradesmen and Women.

Prof. Worika said the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) lbok Ete Ekwe lbas, who is a former military officer, understands the benefits of joining the Military and desirous to encourage Rivers youths to get enrolled.

“I have always admired the military, and it pains me that our youths do not seem to be taking the advantage that is being offered by the Nigerian military", he said.

"We will scale up the sensitization to ensure the people are aware. We have written to the Heads of Local Government Areas.

"We will review to note the gaps in the processes of sensitization that has resulted into this abysmal performance of the state in terms of youths joining the military.

"You cannot imagine the advantage they would have gained if they had taken this initiative, We must encourage our youths that there are alternatives."

In his address, the leader of the team, Brigadier General Wito Nzidee said the quota principle guides the recruitments process and it is important that states take step to fill up slots as specified particularly in the ongoing recruitment that will end on 17th May 2025.

"In Rivers State, we have officers from other states contributing and helping us develop by ensuring that there is peace.

"By not meeting up our target, it means a time will come we will not see Rivers officers as men to secure or keep peace.

"There is no regret in joining the military as long as one remains disciplined and loyal to constituted authority and remains focused to developing a career,” he said.
