ECONOMIC HARDSHIP: WAREHOUSE BELONGING TO NEMA LOOTED BY RESIDENTS

Hoodlums on Sunday broke into a warehouse considered to belong to the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria (NEMA) and carted away various items including foodstuffs.

But NEMA has come out to clarify that the warehouse that was looted by residents of Abuja belonged to the Federal Capital Territory’s Department of Agriculture.

Spokesperson of NEMA, Manzo Ezekiel, in a statement on Sunday, said the looted warehouse was not affiliated with the agency.

Ezekiel, however, sympathised with the owners of the looted facility.

Spokesperson for the FCT Agriculture department, Zakari Aliyu said the looted warehouse belonged to their agency.

Police spokesperson for the FCT command , SP Josephine Adeh also confirmed that hoodlums went on rampage broke into the warehouse and carted items away.

The warehouse is situated in the Phase 3 Region of the FCT area of Abuja.

Adeh however, said that the “the situation is now under control.”

The hoodlums looted bags of maize and grain from the warehouse.

It was obviously a case of an expression of desperation by Nigerians who were experiencing excruciating economic hardship.
