"NO ONE CAN INTIMIDATE US", PUTIN SAYS IN ELECTORIAL VICTORY SPEECH

It was in reaction to the position of the Britain’s Foreign Minister, David Cameron, who on Sunday, said "This is not what free and fair elections look like.”

The exit polls had suggested that the  71-year-old Putin secured another six-year term as Russian president.

By the victory, the hard-line former spy had become the longest-serving Russian leader in more than 200 years.

Putin insisted that no matter what the West said,  Russia would not be “intimidated.” and has therefore hailed his election victory.

Putin said: “I want to thank all of you and all citizens of the country for your support and this trust.”

Putin had expressed his gratitude early Monday morning, during a news conference at his campaign headquarters in Moscow hours after polls closed.

“No matter who or how much they want to intimidate us, no matter who or how much they want to suppress us, our will, our consciousness — no one has ever succeeded in anything like this in history. It has not worked now and will not work in the future. Never.

Official election data showed that Putin secured 87.2 percent of all votes cast.

More than 80 per cent of voting stations submitted results.

Putin did not face any genuine competition in the presidential election.

While the election lasted three days, the war in Ukraine did not stop.

In fact, there was a surge in deadly Ukrainian bombardments, and incursions into Russian territory by pro-Kyiv sabotage groups with noticable vandalism at polling stations.
