Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged the people of the State to gladly join in the boat, saying he is the confident captain on board.


Sir Fubara also said that the Omoku-Egbema Dual carriageway project has been delivered to solve the traffic problem experienced in the area and not to play politics.


Governor Fubara made the explanation at the official Inauguration of the dualized Omoku-Egbema Road project, which took place at De Masters Hotel Junction, Obrikom Road, Omoku Town in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, (ONELGA) on Saturday.


This 21.6Km long dual carriage way project was first awarded on April 28th 2023 by the immediate past administration for the sum of N7.597Bn but was not funded.


Governor Fubara revisited the project in July 2023 by expanding its scope, increase the contractual sum by N5. 47Bn which brought the total value of the contract to  N13. 07Bn.


Governor Fubara explained that he will not politicise the delivery of projects but used them to solve the development problems that the people  face.


"When we added this project as one of the mark of our few months in office, we had a few challenge, but the contractor assured us that the project will be delivered. Let me thank the contractor for keeping to his words."


""What are we doing today, we are here to tell our people that they are the most important thing to us. 


"We are here to assure you that every part of this state will have positive feel of our administration. We can make bold to say that today, a project that was was impossible was made possible by this administration."


"Let me assure you that whatever we say, we will leave up to it. We will not make promises that we will not keep. 


"We will make promises after checking our resources, we will make promises that is within our capacity to deliver and delivering it at good time."


"I have a special reason for inviting our Daddy to commission this road. A lot of you might not understand. 


"This is not politics, this is giving back to our people. So, I want somebody who understand the need of what we are doing to come and speak to our people. 


"I want somebody who has the direct interest of this LGA to come and speak to his people, so that we will understand that when we are in position, what is important is not self, what is important is our people."


"If, within this short months we could deliver this to our people who were yearning for this road, crying and complaining, is a sign that this government have the interest of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.


"So, I want to assure you, don't let anybody deceive you anywhere. 


"This is the right boat to join. The pilot (captain) of this boat, his own mantra is 'The People First'. So, I assure you, with your support, the sky is our beginning."


In response to their requests, governor Fubara mandated the Ministry of Works to ensure that the remaining part of the project leading to the boundary of Imo State that was not part of the original scope of work is attended to  


Governor Fubara also assured that within the next one week, the contractor to complete the reconstruction work on the zonal hospital on the area moves to site.


The governor said his administration might not solve every human and societal challenges but every promise made wi be fulfilled within available resources and delivered on schedule.


"Here and now, we are mandating the Ministry of Works to ensure that the remaining part of this project leading to the boundary of Imo State should be completed. 


"We are also assuring you that the health matter, more especially the zonal hospital, we are going to complete it. We are not just going to complete it, the contractor will move into site in the next one week."


"It won't be proper for me not to appreciate this wonderful LGA. When we started our journey, we started the campaign here and the good people of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni assured us of their support, and they lived up to that commitment. 


"We got the required votes that enabled us to be were we are today."


"So, let me use this opportunity on behalf of the government and the good people of our dear State to say thank you for supporting us before, during and also after the election."

Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Works, Atemea Briggs said the road that is a 21.6Km long dual carriageway project is 7.3meters wide on both sides and has 8.2Km length of drains.
