KING ATEKE TOM PROMOTES PEACE, WE'LL SUPPORT HIM MORE - GOV FUBARA

Rivers State Governor,, Sir Siminalayi Fubara attended the 60th birthday celebration of King Ateke Tom, Amanyanabo of Okochiri kingdom in Okrika Local Government Area on Sunday.

Governor Fubara said: "I feel very happy to be here to celebrate with our own, our brother, on a day like this. We live in such times when because of technology, because of sciences and because of new discovery, life has become too short.

"When one marks 40, you say thank God. Somebody has marked 50 and by the special grace of God, he's celebrating 60. So, I want to thank God for his life because it is only possible through God.

"If you chronicle the life and times of king Tom, you will understand that death moves around him and for him to stay this long, it's only God that has made it possible. So, it is worth celebrating.

"We, as a government, it is our duty to make sure that we support our own, more especially when you are contributing to peace and development of our state.

"I am happy to identify with our brother. He is celebrating three things; first, his birthday, second, the special honour to him by the great people of Okrika and special people of Okochiri, and third one that they said I did. I didn't do it as a person, it is the office of the Governor that honoured him( elevating his traditional stool to first class).

"So, I am happy to tell you that we will continue to stand by him. If there is any other elevation, maybe I would have given you today. But it's unfortunate that when it comes to royal fathers, it ends with First Class, and the office of the Governor has given you that one.

"Let me thank everyone that is here, who has come to celebrate with our brother. Celebration is very important, not because of the drink and wine that we eat and drink.

* But it is the means to say thank you for what God is doing or has done for us. And I am happy that our brother has chosen to thank God for this special honour and he is celebrating with you people.

"So, thank you for coming to support him. I know that as a man, nobody is perfect, but in his own little way he tries as much as he can to make peace his major gift to the people of Okrika.

"I know and I don't need to be told how much he spends to make sure he makes people happy.

"I identify with you and I want to appreciate you for standing with us. Like I had said, the worst is over about the political crisis. What we are doing today is moving forward and advancing our State, and I am happy that you are one of my allies.

"Let me on this note wish you many, many more good moods, and joyous years ahead. Let me also wish the ancient people of Okochiri the best. While your Majesty still remains, he will continue to do his best for you.

"And finally, my own people, the ancient people of Okrika. Okrika and Opobo has a link. As a matter of fact, a few of you that are young ones today, you need to know that we were under this same local government in the great old days.

"So, we have a tie and I am happy to be here and identify with our brother. I am happy to be part of the success story.

"I assure you the only thing that will be associated with our administration is success, success and success."
