 NEW UK PRIME MINISTER, STARMER SET TO TAKE OVER MANTLE 





Britain now has a new Prime Minister, and he is Mr. Keir Starmer of the Labour Party.


Mr Starmer secured landslide victory in a decisive electorial contest on Friday.


He defeated the former prime minister, Rishi Sunak of the Conservative Party who took office less than two years ago.


Sunak had already called Mr. Starmer to congratulate him.


Mr Starmer is a quiet and well experienced man with firm believe in values and has a socialist outlook.


He spoke about his win and said: "Across our country, people will be waking up to the news that a weight has been lifted, a burden finally removed from the shoulders of this nation." 


"There is sunlight of hope with the country having an opportunity after 14 years to get its future back.”


Mr Starmer is a 61-year-old former human rights lawyer.


It is believe that he lacks the star power of some of his predecessors even if he had led a remarkable turnaround for the Labour Party.


The Labour Party had just a few years ago suffered its worst election defeat since the 1930s. 


But Mr Starmer had pulled the party to the political center while capitalizing on the failings of three Conservative prime ministers.

 Rivers CP removes DPO, apologises over assault on journalists The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Adewale Adepoju, says the Divisional Police Officers in charge of the Abali Park jurisdiction where journalists were assaulted by officers of the command while covering the #TakeItBackProtest in Port Harcourt has been removed from office.
