America President, Joe Biden has stepped down

United States of America President, Joe Biden has stepped down as the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party.

President Biden announced his withdrawal from the November 2024 presidential election in a statement on Sunday.

The Democratic presidential nominee endorsed his Vice President, Kamala Harris in his stead to lead the ticket.

Kamal will be facing former President Donald Trump, the Republican Party nominee, in the November election.

President Biden’s announcement has ended weeks of calls on him by party leaders to leave the race.

The call was necessitated by his disastrous debate performance against Trump.

Many Democrats feared that with such performance and for the fact that was too old for office, it would be difficult to defeat Trump.

He said: “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made.

"Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."

Biden also said he will address the nation later in the week.
