  CHIEF JUDGE TRANSFERS CASES ON DEFECTION OF AMAEWHULE, OTHERS Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John Tsoho has responded to the petition before him to transfer some cases already being heard. The cases included those challenging the defection of Rt. Hon Amaewhule and 24 others of the Rivers State House of Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. There had been a petition by a defendant in the matter, Rt Hon. Martins Amaewhule, who had demanded that the cases against him be transferred to another court. In response, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Tsoho has transfered the cases from Justice Steven Dalyop Pam of the Federal High Court 4, sitting in Port Harcourt who was the trial judge of the cases, to Court Two that is headed by Justice E.   PRIME SUSPECT IN RIVERS EXPLOSIVE DETONATION FOUND, IN INTENSIVE CARE .As Police Tighten Security At Facility The prime suspect in the failed detonation of alleged explosive device outside the perimeter fence of Hotel Presidential along Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway during a protest on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has been nabbed, revived and is now receiving intensive care at the State University Teaching Hospital. The suspect is alleged to be part of a group of protesters loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and supporters of former elected local government chairmen, whose tenure elapsed at midnight on June 17, 2024, and have been agitating for tenure elongation, a demand alien to the Constitution. UNIPORT lecturers protest, say 324 professors owed 30-month allowances  The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Port Harcourt branch, has decried the Federal Government’s failure to review the condition of works for its members. This is as the branch said 325 of its senior lecturers promoted to the professorial level had yet to receive their promotion arrears for 30 to 40 months. The Chairman of ASUU, UNIPORT, Uzoma Chima, disclosed this at a news briefing on Tuesday before the protest on the school campus in Port Harcourt. Chima called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to do what is necessary and avoid another crisis in the universities.  The UNIPORT ASUU branch chairman said the call became necessary to avert another strike by the union.  COURT ACQUITS FARAH DAGOGO OF CRIMINAL CHARGES  A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has discharged Farah Dagogo, a former governorship aspirant, acquitting him of the criminal charges preferred against him. Farah Dagogo was a member of the House of Representatives, who represented Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the Ninth Assembly when the immediate past administration of the state government, led by Nyesom Wike, preferred criminal charges against him. It was on April 28, 2022 that Farah Dagogo was arrested in Port Harcourt for appearing for screening as a PDP governorship aspirant.  For his insistence to participate in that process, as alleged, he had been declared wanted by the Rivers State government under Nyesom Wike.   HND holders from polytechnics must undergo one-year mandatory training - Federal Government The federal government on Thursday explained the rationale behind the one year mandatory training requirements for holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND), before their conversion from Executive to Officer cadre, in the federal civil service. Folashade Yemi-Esan, the head of Service of the Federation, revealed the reason while speaking at an interactive session, with a civil servant in Abuja, on Thursday. Yemi- Esan who was conducting her third interactive session with civil servants since she assumed office, was responding to question from Adebayo Hassan, a Grade Level 14 officer, who requested to know why the dichotomy between B.Sc and HND, in public service; and what government is doing to bridged the gap.   Governors Reject N100,000 Minimum Wage Proposal, Opt For N70,000   Governors from across the 36 states in Nigeria have said that a minimum wage higher than N70,000 is not affordable or sustainable for the states. The governors made the remarks when they met under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), to discuss the economic situation and the ongoing debate around the minimum wage. They considered options ranging from N60,000, which was offered to Labour by the Federal Government before the strike, to N70,000, which is currently being paid by the Edo State Government. Despite their efforts, they were unable to reach a consensus on a uniform amount and have instead set up a committee headed by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to review the options and make recommendations.
